#1 Bio-Oil helps to improve the appearance of new or old scars

https://www.instagram.com/p/BX57tBHBFxn/

"Big Fan of Bio Oil, used it post op on c-section scars and have been using it on mx/recon site since bearable to touch it. Keeps tissues nice and subtle and smells good!" (Tina45) - source: breastcancercare.org.uk

"My two surgeons (breast and plastic) gave me their tops picks - Bio Oil & Mederma. The onion skin and super mega hyaluronic acid in the Mederma stretch mark lotion is amazing and has a lot of clinical date but it is pricey as hell. The Bio Oil is a hedge witch favorite, and my pregnant friends swear by it. That said, I used both (morning + night) so hard to give credit to just one. Also detest the smell of both of these but possibly because I associate them with how much pain I was in. They work" - source: li.st

Promising review: "I have used many different products to reduce my scars after my mastectomy and I have found this to be the best. It absorbs quickly and my scars seem to be going away." - Spyingdragonflies

#2 Aroamas Scar Gel is a powerful scar-fighting solution

Promising review: "I just started using the Aroamas Scar Gel. And silicon strips after very complex DIEP Flap surgery post mastectomy. Great price for the hospital grade silicon products. I will buy again I just need a bigger tube and my long and many surgical scars are going to take awhile to fully heal and diminish." - db

#3 MD Performance Professional Skin Care – 100% Medical Grade Silicone Scar Treatment for Surgery

Promising review: "I selected this product after reading the reviews. I had a recent lumpectomy for breast cancer that I coupled with a breast reduction. I initially used a silicon gel product from my surgeon’s office. Although I was happy with that product, I was curious what else was out there. So Amazon research commenced. I purchased MDPerformance first and was happy with the results. But I wanted to try a few others, too, to check out. Before I could finish the 3rd product (first was my surgeons, then MDPerformance, then another brand) I purchased another tube of the MDPerformance scar gel. It worked the best of the three. At 4 months postop, my scars are more skin color than pink, and are steadily thinning and flattening out. I highly recommend MDPerformance Advanced Scar Silicon Gel." - Nancy Conklin

#4 Honeydew – Vitamin E Oil for Skin After Surgery

Promising review: "I am a breast cancer/mastectomy survivor with numerous scars on my chest, abdomen, and also my arms (chemo and meds to prevent a recurrence have damaged my skin, making it very fragile and subject to bruising, bleeding and scarring). I have tried most of the over the counter scar creams and none have been effective. On a whim I browsed Amazon to see if there was anything else available. Ordered this cream based on customer reviews and WOW. I am finally seeing noticeable fading of scars and the skin on my arm seems stronger, less fragile. Highly recommend." - Pelican

Promising review: "I had a double mastectomy. This product lightens the scars some have completely faded" - Amazon Customer

#5 Mederma Advanced Scar Gel – Clinically shown to improve the overall appearance, color, and texture of scars

"I've been using Mederma, avail at your pharmacy. I used it for about a year on the left breast mastectomy about 6 weeks after surgery. The scar, long as it is, has blended beautifully with..." (Betsy Krueger) - source: beyondtheshock.com

"I used Mederma although there is no way to know what it would have looked like without it. But my scar is smooth and mostly almost unnoticeable" (Lianne_adminCCS) - source: cancerconnection.ca

"Once your wounds are healed your doctor will recommend that you start using scar cream. I used (and liked) Mederma. They will sell you an overpriced bottle at their office or you can purchase it from Amazon for much cheaper. Also, after awhile you can switch to Vitamin E oil which is much more affordable." - source: northcarolinacharm.com

Promising review: "Came in great condition and unopened. Still sealed with the tape. They placed the sticker over the expiration date, but I peeled it enough to not hurt the date. Expires in May 2018 (ordered June 2017), which is good. It'll probably be gone in a few months though, but very satisfied! Recommended to me by my doctor after a mastectomy and already the scars have lessen in redness. Dries quickly and I reapply three times a day per my doctor's order" - Amazon Customer

#9 CicaTape Soft Silicone Tape – comfortable and permeable

Promising review: "I bought this to use on my mastectomy/reduction/top surgery scars. I began scar treatment three weeks post-op with my surgeon's permission. I cut the sheets in half horizontally. While I am wearing one set, I have another set drying after cleaning with warm water and anti-bacterial soap to wear the next day. I use the sheet it came with to stick the strips to so they don't collect hair and other things in my bathroom when not in use. So far I've been using the strips religiously for two months and I've just opened my second box. I only discard them when they've picked up too much lint from my clothing around the edges, even though they were still very sticky. I'm pleased with the routine I've come up with, the cost, and the effectiveness/stickiness/ease of this product. I just want my scars to be flat, and this does the job. I'm not expecting a miracle. Just so happy I could have surgery." - A. Chen

Promising review: "Worth every penny!! I’d been using Scar Away sheets which are good but this stays on better!! I put it on my double mastectomy scars and just leave it on for days. Sometimes I’ll put some Mederma Advanced scar gel right on top of the tape if I remember but I usually just “set it and forget it”. I haven’t had much luck with any brand reusing it as they advertise so I end up just throwing it out after I take it off. This brand Cica Tape is perforated but you can use it in long sections as needed. Perforations tear easily and the plastic sheets they’re on are a textured pattern so they’re easy to hold while separating them. Once the tape is on it stays through showers, working out and every day life. I really love this brand. I just wish it came in a bigger roll" - K. Goyette

#10 Mepiform Soft Silicone Sheeting for Scar Reduction

Promising review: "Expensive but a little goes a long way. I purchased for my impending double mastectomy. I will let you know how it works. I have been using it on my lumpectomy scar with success. Combine it with a good scar cream and needling." - dorri

Promising review: "I used this for 2 months after breast cancer surgery. Unfortunately, it didn't hold up well to daily showers, even though I shielded it. It does reduce scarring, though." - Linda S. Boxleitner

Price: $61.05 ($12.21 / Count)

#11 St. Mege Medical-Grade Drug-Free Silicone Scar Sheets for C-Section

Promising review: "haven't been able to use it lately because I sweat excessively in the heat (using it on my chest for scars from a double mastectomy) and the weather has been hot, but the time I was able to use it I loved it. Goes on easy, sticks well when I'm not sweating, and then once it's on I barely feel it! I'll hold off on buying it again until cooler weather, but I'll definitely buy it again" - Crow Khaaliq

Promising review: "My wife is recovering from Breast Cancer. A double mastectomy left some relatively large scars. The Plastic Surgeon recommended these. She has been using them for about a month and we see a drastic improvement. I ordered some for a friends daughter who has facial scars from a dog bite. It seems to be working!" - donna f.
